Presenting on WordPress at Refresh Conway

Topic: Demystifying WordPress.

On the second Tuesday of January, I will be presenting at Refresh Conway. This talk will cover a wide-range of WordPress best practices and how-to’s. All should attend, from noob to expert. I’ll try to keep the content flexible based on the level of everyones experience who attend.

Things you should already know to get the most out of the presentation:

  • HTML
  • CSS
  • PHP (at least a basic understanding and can read the code)
  • Have installed WordPress at least once or twice.
  • Have modified a theme in some way. (preferred)

I have built at least 40+ sites using WordPress as a CMS and picked up a few tricks along the way. Here are a few things we will cover:

  • How to build a theme from scratch. The easy way.
  • What is the difference between the files single, page, index, home, and more? And how should I be using them?
  • Best practices when building a theme?
  • How do I do ____?
  • Security
  • The Loop
  • When and Why WordPress?
  • Functions.php is your friend
  • Tips and Tricks
  • The Advanced Stuff (Pods, and Core fun)
  • Speedy Development

I will make my starter theme available after the presenation. By starter I mean absolute bare bones, for a Designer with code skills or a Developer.
